If you booked a train to Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur or Agra for a fort trip and it's showing WL 80, the honest answer is: that's a long shot on its own, but it's not the end of the trip. Here's how to actually think about it.

Why WL 80 on its own doesn't tell you much

The number is just your position in the queue on that specific waitlist — it doesn't tell you the class, the quota (GNWL, RLWL, PQWL or TQWL), the season, or how fast that particular train's waitlist tends to move. See our full guide to reading a WL number for how these bands generally play out — but treat any general band as illustrative, not a prediction for your exact ticket.

What actually changes the odds for a Rajasthan or Agra trip

  • Which quota you're on — a GNWL 80 clears very differently from an RLWL 80 or a TQWL 80 on the same train.
  • Season — festival months and the peak October–March travel window into Rajasthan move much slower than the off-season.
  • Class — 3AC waitlists on popular Jaipur and Jodhpur trains are often longer than Sleeper on the same route.
  • Route — the most heavily booked trains on Delhi–Jaipur–Jodhpur have deep waitlists precisely because they're the most convenient; a slightly less convenient train can have real availability.

What to do if you're heading to Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur or Agra

  • Check nearby stations — a change in boarding station can put you on a different quota entirely.
  • Opt into the Vikalp scheme so the system automatically checks alternate trains on the same route for a vacant seat.
  • Check a different class on the same train, or a different train on the same date.
  • Keep a bus, flight, or a mixed train-plus-bus route as a genuine backup rather than a last-minute panic option.

Pro tip: Track the number daily rather than checking once — a WL 80 that's dropped to WL 30 over a week is a very different situation from a WL 80 that hasn't moved in ten days. Our waitlist trend guide covers this in more detail.
